There seem to be quite a lot of coughs and colds around at the moment. The cherries are ripening in the garden and they make an excellent cough syrup along with lemon and honey.
500g (17oz) Cherries (leave the stones in)
1 Lemon, sliced
250ml / (1/2 pint) honey
Put all ingredients in a pan with enough water to cover and simmer gently for about 30 minutes, or until the cherries are soft. Remove from the heat and strain out the solids, then allow to cool. Pour into a sterilised bottle.
Use: Take 2 tbsp, as required, to sooth coughing.
Storage: Will keep for several days in the fridge.
