Most of us have fond memories of food from our childhood. Whether it was our mum's homemade suet pudding or a memorable chocolate birthday cake, food has a way of transporting us back to the past.
For me, I have very fond childhood memories of my Great Auntie Bella.
When we visited her in her cottage in the Ceiriog Valley, she would sit me on her big brown leather sofa in front of the roaring fire, place a table in front of me, then bring out an incredible selection of cakes she had made. I always remember being very comfortable, surrounded by her hand-knitted patchwork cushions, and eating her delicious cakes.
I’m sure it’s from these memories that my love of baking developed. Chocolate cake, fairy cakes, scones and homemade jam – all the things she liked to bake I bake now too. And now my daughters also like to bake.
It's a labour of love. A love that gets passed from generation to generation.
